The Himalayan Vegan Festival Short Film Competition invites you to take out your phones and start capturing captivating and powerful moments that you can turn into a short film to fight for social change. As Mahatma Gandhi once said “Be the change that you want to see in the world” – by simply looking around you your neighborhood and community, and making a short film that highlights any misconduct or injustice, you might be able to create waves of change that could result in thousands, if not millions, in changing their actions. Powerful videos and short films have been seen to go viral fast and have been creating change since the advent of social media.

So if you have a story you want to tell, an injustice you want to expose, or a concerned message you want to share – open your gadgets create a short movie – and send it to The Himalayan Vegan Festival Short Film Competition. The short film competition is open to everyone who wants to create and share their short movie on any subject matter involving veganism, animal welfare, the environment, and conservation. The top 10 films will have their worldwide premiere at The Himalayan Vegan Festival Theater and the top 3 films will have special awards presented to the filmmakers by an international jury of award winning filmmakers. The deadline for submission is 22 August, 2022, and film lengths should be between 5-20 minutes. So don’t wait – take out your phone and creating the next life-changing movie! 

The Himalayan Vegan Festival happening in the Himalayan capital of Kathmandu, Nepal from September 15th to 17th, 2022, and in Pokhara, Nepal from September 18th to 20th, 2022 will host film directors and experts from around the world who have created powerful and compelling movies that have left the world awe struck. They will be among a jury of experts and activists who will watch and evaluate each short film that is submitted while also sharing their experiences and expertise with participants.

SHORT FILM COMPETITION SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

DURATION:
Maximum 20 minutes

FORMAT GUIDELINES:
The final video should be submitted in MPEG format.
– Cameras can range from smartphones (1080p@30fps) to other
professional as well.
– The frame should be horizontal.

SUBJECT MATTER:
Short films relating to Vegan Activism, Animal Welfare, Plant-based Diet, Compassion, Animal Rights, Environment, Carbon Footprint, Climate Change, or Conservation, Global Warming in the Himalayan Region.

ORIGINAL CONCEPT & FOOTAGE:
All footage/images used must be original or copyright free.
– The music must be original or copyright free.
– The concept of the movie must be original.
– The Subtitle must be in English

JUDGING:
The films will be screened and judged by independent, non-partial
jury members.
– The films will be marked for their originality, storytelling and
production.
